| ECE Doctoral Fellowships
ECE Doctoral Fellowships will be available for the 2005-2006 academic year to superior graduate students who are newly enrolling at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department in one of its doctoral programs (EE or CpE). These awards are one of UCF's most prestigious, providing support to the most qualified Ph.D. applicants in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
The ECE Doctoral Fellowships provide a stipend of $16,000 and full tuition support for the 1st year of the students Ph.D studies. The student is required to enroll in one of the Doctoral programs in the ECE Department (EE or CpE) and register for 9 credit hours in the Fall and Spring semesters and 6 credit hours in the Summer semester. The student is also required to take 6 credit hours of independent student under the supervision of a faculty member, during the first year of his/her studies. Through these independent study courses the student will familiarize himself/herself with the research area of a faculty that can serve as an academic advisor. Within the first year of his/her studies the student is also expected to prepare to take the Qualifying Ph.D. exam. A requirement of the ECE fellowship is that the student will perform some teaching duties (grader for a course or lab instructor of a course). After the first year of their Ph.D. studies it is expected that a faculty within the ECE Department will support the ECE fellowship recipient from his/her research grants for the duration of his/her Ph.D. studies.
The minimum criteria for the award are:
- Must be a doctoral applicant to the ECE Department (EE or CpE program).
- GRE score of at least 1100 on the combined verbal-quantitative sections, or GMAT score of at least 630 (please keep in mind that a lot of our applicants have higher than the minimum GRE scores).
- TOEFL score of at least 220 (if applicable)
All students wishing to be considered for this award must submit a complete application for admission, which includes a goal statement, undergraduate (and graduate) transcripts, 3 letters of recommendation, and a resume, to the Office of Graduate Studies by February 1st, 2006. It is intended that the resume and goal statement will include information about the applicant's experience in the field, evidence of awards, recognition, or honors, and evidence of professional contributions and achievements.
For more information about the ECE fellowships please contact the EE Graduate Coordinator (Michael Georgiopoulos at michaelg@mail.ucf.edu), or the CpE Graduate Coordinator (Harold Klee at klee@mail.ucf.edu) .
Note: Although reference is made above about the 2005-2006 ECE Doctoral Fellowships fellowships the ECE Department will be offering these fellowships on a recurring basis (every year). The number of fellowships offered every year will depend on the quality of the applicants applied, and the specific needs of the ECE Department. |
