Financial Aid

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) currently offers Masters and Ph.D. (Doctorate) degrees in two programs: Computer Engineering (CpE), and Electrical Engineering (EE). The Computer Engineering program offers specialization in computer architecture, digital systems, software engineering, knowledge based systems, VLSI design and computer networks. The Electrical Engineering program offers specialization in areas such as controls, communications, signal processing, electronics, power electronics, solid state and microelectronics, electromagnetics, electro-optics, and VLSI. Currently the ECE Department has 150 Ph.D. students and 200 Masters students. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Central Florida is committed to offering the highest quality graduate education.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering currently supports approximately 110 Ph.D. students and 30 Masters students. The financial aid to Masters and Ph.D. students is described in detail below.

Financial aid for the Ph.D. students

Teaching assistantships are awarded by the respective program after careful review of the applicant's background and academic credentials. Research assistantships are offered by faculty with funded research in need of students who can contribute to the research in some way.

ECE fellowships are offered to outstanding Ph.D. applicants in either one of the 2 programs (EE or CpE). These fellowships include a $16,000 stipend and full tuition support for year 1 of the student’s Ph.D. studies. The remaining years of a student’s Ph.D. studies are expected to be supported through research assistantships that the ECE faculty offer to EE/CpE fellowship students.

It is anticipated that 15 ECE fellowships will be awarded in the academic years 2005-2006 (starting Fall of 2006).

Presidential and Trustee fellowships are funded by the University. The Presidential fellowship offers Ph.D. students a $17,000 stipend and full tuition support for years 1 and 3 of their studies. The Trustee fellowship provides an $18,000 stipend and full tuition support for Ph.D. students in years 1 and 2 of their studies. The remaining years of a student’s Ph.D. studies are expected to be supported by research assistantships from the ECE faculty. Presidential fellowships are awarded to international or domestic applicants. Trustee fellowships are awarded only to domestic applicants.

Financial aid for the Masters students

BS+MS fellowships are offered only to UCF students applying for the BS+MS Masters program. These fellowships include a $15,000 stipend and full tuition support for the year that the BS+MS students are officially in the graduate program.
