Industry Day 2008

The inaugural Industry Day was held on April 14, 2008 in the Harris Engineering Center. This state-of-the-art building is the crowning facility of the engineering and computer science complex.

Dr. Paul McManamon, Chief Scientist at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, gave a keynote speech on "Layered Sensing, a Response to Performance Based Knowledge Objectives."

Dr. William Hoffman, UCF Alumnus and Vice President of Kitware, Inc., presented a talk on Open Source Software at the Industry Day Award Luncheon. The award presentation followed thereafter. A list of recipients can be found below.

The day concluded with a Poster Session in which students displayed their ongoing research efforts. Industry Affiliates were able to interact and network with the both students and their advisors.

Outstanding Alumni Award

To recognize and honor an outstanding alumnus of the Department of EECS who has enhanced the prestige of the school through his/her professional success, leadership, dedication to serving the community.

Recipients: James H. Pierce, William Hoffman, Kamran Malik





Industrial Affiliates Board Service Award

To recognize and honor a current board member's exceptional and significant service to the School's Industry Advisory Board (IAB) through leadership, dedication, energy and ideas that consistently support the mission and objectives of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

Industry Research Sponsor Award

To recognize and honor an Industry for its continued and consistent research support to the Department of EECS.

Recipient: Lockheed Martin Corporation

Dr. Abhijit Mahalanobis and Mr. Ed Knerr accepting the award on behalf of Lockheed Martin.



Graduate Teaching Associate

To recognize and honor an outstanding graduate student teacher of the Department of EECS who has enhanced the quality of the school's undergraduate education through excellence in teaching and mentorship.

Recipient: Robert Lee



Outstanding Dissertation Award

To recognize and honor the quality and contribution of a Department of EECS student's doctoral dissertation. The dissertation award is given to a Ph.D. student whose Ph. D dissertation research demonstrates the strongest potential of impacting the state-of-the art in an EECS research discipline.

Distinguished Faculty Researcher of the Year

To recognize and honor outstanding research activity of the Department of EECS faculty.

Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award

To recognize and honor the quality and contribution of a Department of EECS faculty in undergraduate teaching.

Recipient: Mr. Arup Guha





Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award

To recognize and honor the quality and contribution of a Department of EECS faculty in graduate level teaching.
