UCF's Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (EECS) has changed dramatically in recent years. In 2007, EECS research funding exceeded more than $11.9 million, and for 2008, we are approaching record-setting numbers, with research expenditures reaching an average of $140K per faculty member. Cutting edge, exciting research goes on in every discipline within the Department of EECS and is strongly rooted in technologies and applications that solve real problems in the global marketplace. The School's existing strength in many high-tech areas has earned EECS international prominence and exposure in many areas, including:

  • Advanced Wireless Communications
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Computer Architecture
  • Computer Gaming and Evolutionary Computing
  • Computer Systems and VLSI
  • Computer Vision and Graphics
  • Databases
  • Digital Signal Processing
  • Energy and Renewable Sources
  • Entertainment Engineering
  • Microwaves
  • Networks and Network Security
  • Power Electronics and Controls
  • Robotics
  • Simulation and Modeling
  • Systems and Software Engineering
  • Telecommunications

To support our rapid growth, the university dedicated the Harris Corporation Engineering Center in January of 2007. The four-story, 100,000 square foot building serves as the home of the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science. This remarkable building is the crowning facility of the engineering and computer science complex. It contains educational and research laboratories, offices for both faculty and support personnel, collaborative space for research projects, support space for student advising, seminar meeting rooms and classrooms. The state-of-the-art facility allows the school to upgrade student support services, research and teaching laboratories, as well as facilitate faculty and student interaction and advanced research. UCF's Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science is truly a community of innovators, pioneering new research to solve 21st century challenges.
