Expert Panel: Prof. Wen Gao,IEEE Fellow,ACM Fellow,CAE Member

Prof. Wen GaoBio: Wen Gao received his Ph.D. degree in electronics engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1991. He is a professor of computer science at the Peking University from Feb. of 2006, and the vice president of NSFC from Feb. of 2013. He joined with the Harbin Institute of Technology from 1991 to 1995, as professor, department head of computer science. He was with Institute of Computing Technology (ICT), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) from 1996 to 2005. During his career in CAS, he served as the managing director of ICT from 1998 to 1999, the executive vice president of Graduate School of CAS from 2000 to 2004, the vice president of University of Science and Technology China from 2000 to 2003. Dr. Gao is working at the areas of video coding, video processing, computer vision, and multimedia. He is a Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of IEEE, and a Fellow of ACM.

Dr. Klaus SchoeffmannBio: Dr. Klaus Schoeffmann is an Associate Professor in the distributed multimedia systems research group at the Institute of Information Technology (ITEC) at Klagenfurt University, Austria. He received his Ph.D. in 2009 and his Habilitation (venia docendi) in 2015, both in Computer Science and from Klagenfurt University. His research focuses on human-computer-interaction with multimedia data (e.g., image and video browsing), multimedia content analysis, and multimedia tools and applications. He has co-authored more than 60 publications on various topics in multimedia and he has co-organized international conferences, special sessions and workshops (e.g., MMM 2012, CBMI 2013, VisHMC 2014, MMC 2014, and MMC 2015). He is co-founder of the Video Browser Showdown (VBS), an editorial board member of the Springer International Journal on Multimedia Tools and Applications (MTAP), Springer International Journal on Multimedia Systems, and a steering committee member of the International Conference on MultiMedia Modelling (MMM). Additionally, he is member of the IEEE and the ACM and a regular reviewer for international conferences and journals in the field of multimedia. Prof. Schoeffmann teaches various courses in computer science, including mobile app development (interactive multimedia applications), video retrieval, media technology, distributed systems, distributed multimedia systems, and operating systems.

Dr. Mubarak ShahBio: Dr. Mubarak Shah, Trustee Chair Professor of Computer Science, is the founding director of the Center for Research in Computer Vision at UCF. His research interests include: video surveillance, visual tracking, human activity recognition, visual analysis of crowded scenes, video registration, UAV video analysis, etc. Dr. Shah is a fellow of IEEE, AAAS, IAPR and SPIE. In 2006, he was awarded a Pegasus Professor award, the highest award at UCF. He is ACM distinguished speaker. He was an IEEE Distinguished Visitor speaker for 1997-2000 and received IEEE Outstanding Engineering Educator Award in 1997. He received the Harris Corporation's Engineering Achievement Award in 1999, the TOKTEN awards from UNDP in 1995, 1997, and 2000; Teaching Incentive Program award in 1995 and 2003, Research Incentive Award in 2003 and 2009, Millionaires' Club awards in 2005 and 2006, University Distinguished Researcher award in 2007, honorable mention for the ICCV 2005 Where Am I? Challenge Problem, and was nominated for the best paper award in ACM Multimedia Conference in 2005. He is an editor of international book series on Video Computing; editor in chief of Machine Vision and Applications journal, and an associate editor of ACM Computing Surveys journal. He was an associate editor of the IEEE Transactions on PAMI, and a guest editor of the special issue of International Journal of Computer Vision on Video Computing.

Prof. Alan F. SmeatonBio: Alan Smeaton is Professor of Computing at Dublin City University (appointed 1997) where he has previously been Head of School and Executive Dean of Faculty, and is also Director of the Insight Centre for Data Analytics at DCU. He is also a member of the Irish Research Council with a Ministerial appointment from 2012 to 2018 and a member of the COST Scientific Committee which oversees the disbursement of COST's budget of €300m during the lifetime of Horizon 2020. His research work focuses on the development of theories and technologies to support all aspects of information discovery and human memory, allowing people to find the right information at the right time and in the right form. He is internationally recognised for his work on information retrieval — particularly multimedia retrieval — and on automatic video analysis. He is founding coordinator of TRECVid, the international benchmarking evaluation campaign on information retrieval from Digital Video, run by the National Institute of Standards and Technology in the US annually since 2001. He has more than 600 peer-reviewed publications on Google SCHOLAR with over 11,000 citations and an h-index of 51.
