Director/Program Director at Telcordia Technologies
    General Responsibilities:
    Responsible for the management of a multiunit research organization that has a large financial/research impact on the company. Develops innovative, state-of-the-art research capabilities for Telcordia and is responsible for driving them to successful results through subordinate management. Provides technical direction and overall supervision and guidance to departmental personnel. Interactions normally involve controversial situations, customer negotiations, or influencing and persuading other senior level managers. Manages department budgets and staff resources to best meet the needs of all customers of Applied Research. Works with Program Managers to formulate proposals for research projects, and in determining assignment of personnel to projects. Responsible for the staffing and career development of employees. Typically reports to a VP/GM or Officer and typically requires 12+ years of related experience. Typically has a PhD in field of interest.

    Major Function:
    The position is for a Program Director to manage a large multiyear research program involving multiple University and industrial partners. Research areas will include communications, information and social/cognitive networks.
    The Program Director will be responsible for managing the research of the various partners and also identifying opportunities for transitioning the results of the research to appropriate customers.
    The program will be funded by the Army.

    Required Skills:
    - Candidate must have a broad technical background spanning the areas of communications, information and social/cognitive networks, especially in the context of military operations.
    - Candidate must have experience with collaborative research between industry and academia and the ability to formulate negotiate and lead major collaborative research programs that meet the needs of military customers. The form of leadership should be such that the highly skilled individuals and teams that are part of the collaborative research have the autonomy and flexibility to deliver customer value, while allowing the lead organization to maintain control.
    - MS in EE, CS, or related field is required. PhD is preferable.
    The position requires full-time employment at or near Aberdeen, MD.

    Additional Skills:
    - Candidate should have experience with maturing and transitioning technology from basic and applied research to realistic military applications and environments, including marketing research products to potential downstream customers.
    - Candidate should have a strong publication record and extensive contacts within the research and development community, both industrial and academic.
    - Candidate must be able to work with various internal and partner support organizations (contracting, finance, etc.) to meet the administrative requirements of the program.
