Subject: Function keys and cursor keys on the hp2392a and emacs

	I believe that the function keys can be made to work, as they
can be set (even under remote control) to emit various sequences;
so it should be easy to send the appropriate codes to interface with
emacs (although there is not the shift-control-alt distinction of fun keys
that you may be used to in word perfect, and there are only 8 of them).
The sequence to echo to your terminal
is 
	ESC & f <key> k <label length> d <string length> L <label> <string>
where
	<key> ::= a numeral from 1 to 8 (f1-f8)
	<label length> ::= the length of <label>
	<string length> ::= the length of <string>
	<label> ::= label string for the terminal's menu (normally shows f1...)
	<string> ::= the string transmitted when the key is pressed

For example to make f5 transmit M-x spell-buffer <CR>, you would echo
	&f5k5d15LSpellxspell-buffer


Note that there is a ^J at the end of this (carriage return).
One way to do this is to put the following in your .profile:
	echo '&f5k5d15LSpellxspell-buffer
'

After sending a bunch of these, you can display the labels with ESC & j B

	You can also set the function keys up to systematically transmit
a label and then have emacs (and other programs) do the mapping.

	The situation with the cursor keys is even easier.  They transmit
as follows

	up	ESC A	i.e., M-A for emacs
	down	ESC B
	right	ESC C
	left	ESC D

You simply have to define these in emacs to do the appropriate cursor movement.
The big catch is that the emacs model of cursor movement does not exactly
match that of various editors you may be used to: caveat emptor.
For example try putting the following lines in your .emacs file.
(Warning: I haven't tested them.)

(global-set-key "\M-A" 'previous-line)
(global-set-key "\M-B" 'next-line)
(global-set-key "\M-C" 'forward-char)
(global-set-key "\M-D" 'backward-char)

I have the following lines in my term/hp2392a.el file:
;;; On the hp2392a terminals, delete is very inconveniently placed,
;;; so the following makes C-h do the job of delete (delete still works).

(global-set-key "\C-h" 'backward-delete-char-untabify)
